Taking Care: Why Time Management Is Important When Cleaning Carpet

When you own a small business, time management has to be a serious priority. If you’re a small business owner of any type, proper time management is hugely important to make sure you stay profitable. As a professional carpet cleaning company you are working in a service industry based all around time. Your customers expect their carpets cleaned and dried by a certain time. Any mistake in your ability to manage your time means that they will be held up, which could mean that they will move to another business in the future to avoid the hassle.

To manage your properly, you’ll want to follow these steps:

Know your equipment

Without understand how long it takes to run your equipment, or not knowing exactly how it best functions, you are wasting valuable time. You should know how to run and troubleshoot your carpet cleaning equipment with ease. Otherwise, you could be using the equipment wrong and losing a lot of time.

Log your time

Do you know how long it takes you to do a 14’x14’ carpet? What about two couches and wall-to-wall carpeting in a 12’ room? How about a 3-story office building? Without time logging, you may bid these jobs incorrectly. If you underestimate the time it takes to complete a job, you will lose money and annoy the customer by being there longer than you promised. If you overbid, you may lose the customer or have them go to a competitor for a more competitive price.

To avoid this, know exactly how long it takes you to complete your most requested services and understand exactly how long it takes for carpets and upholstery to dry so that they can be used and walked on safely.

Identify time wasters

When you log your time, you’ll be able to spot where you waste the most time. If you calculate the percentage of time you spend on these activities, you will be able to see how much money you’re losing.

Are you spending time every day going to buy refills of chemicals because you underestimated how much you would need? Find a supplier that can give you chemicals in larger amounts.

Is your equipment giving you trouble or failing to work as needed? Consider upgrading your carpet cleaning equipment or repairing it so it works, as needed every time.
